My brother and I have just started to work on some rudimentary
drafting down a back road, very straight, low traffic, and were having
a great time trading pulls.
On one pull I was in about 52x19 or maybe one higher (52x21?), and
easily getting about 88rpm cadence, or about 18mph.
Suddenly I just got the idea to shoot out from behind him and just
really sprint it out to see how fast I could get up to in that gear.
So I kicked it up and ended up going about 110rpm, and about 25.9mph.
Pretty cool. I'm hoping to get a new PB on the flats this way. I've
gotten up to 31.5-32mph with a short run, but I'd like to break 30 on
the true flats. I was surprised that I could hit such a fast speed in
that gear. I think I could hit near 30-ish at 100rpm in 52x15, (if I'm
counting the gears correctly.)
Hope everyone is having some great riding following the Tour. I'm
getting in 2-a-days, 10 fast miles each ride.
Next we're going to try and get a double slingshot - I pull out at
18mph and kick up to 20, and pull back in front and then he'll draft
at up to 23mph and the pull out and kick it up again.
Great way to spend ten days, flying over the flats! ;-)
