  1. It's rioting weather, isn't it?

That's my excuse for having finally failed to avoid a collision
after dodging five or six earlier today. I would surely have
been fewer near misses if the thunder had got here by now.

The one I failed to avoid involved wasting a person on a bicycle,
who passed me on the pavement while I was waiting at a red light
at a pelican crossing, and then hopped back into my path without
looking when I had already got up to speed after the light changed.
I couldn't have stopped before overlapping with him and I could,
just possibly, have managed to brake with my front wheel to the
right of his back wheel, but I didn't. I got the braking and
steering just sufficiently mixed up that my front wheel went to
his left, between him and the pavement, and in order to stay on I
had to flick his back wheel.

He came off in quite a spectacular way: I was amazed.

I didn't know you could do that to someone else's bike and stay
    on yourself.

I was musing about how he would have fared had I been on a
r*c*mb*nt with a chainwheel at the front. Why aren't there
direct-drive r*c*mb*nts? Whatever happened to the recumbent
    ordinary?

About fifty yards further down the road I met another person
on a bicycle, wearing an i-pod, mirror shades and silly grin,
coming up the marked cycle lane on the wrong side of the road.
There are going to be riots, tonight, aren't there?

My one today was turning right onto a road with traffic queued up in the
lane I was joining. Crossed the traffic queue in the space in front of
a bus, slowed and stuck my head out to look what was coming down the
inside of the bus before I pulled into the kerbside space. As I did so
another cyclist following me shot straight me past as another cyclist
was coming down the inside. I sat stopped there in front of the bus as
all sorts of squealing of brakes, swearing and swerving went on in front
of me. Both stayed on and no damage done. There's a lot of new
cyclists out there in London and some of them are a real menace.

Not just in Larndon. I watched three cyclists all in a row (isn't that
a nursery rhyme?) approach some green lights. The lights turned yellow.
The first cyclist cranked on the power and belted across. The second
and third cyclists also cranked on the power. The lights went red.
The second glanced sideways at the cars looming from the side roads,
decided prudence, etc, and slammed on the brakes a couple of meters
short of the line, right as the tail end Charlie stuck his head down to
crank on the power even further...

I regret to report that on my ride this afternoon nothing at all
dramatic involving other road users happened.

I will try to do better.

I really [censored] a driver today by going through a light. There he
was, waiting impatiently in the boiling heat, admittedly in front of
the line, and I sailed straight past and off up a side road. Was he
    ever [censored]!

Light was green, of course, and he was stuck in a monster traffic
    jam...

Hmmm. It's not that humid here, but ...

I was having a swim today at about six, in a swimming spot that was
unusually busy (mine wasn't the only bike there:-). I was in the
water under a narrow bridge when I heard a mighty scrunch.
On getting out a bit later, there was someone fixing a car just off
the bridge. I don't know what happened, but ... looked like
    hot work.
