  1. Too many McEwens and Boonens on the group ride this morning. A few were
in the left when traffic was coming and moved back into the lane,
nowhere for me to go, a touch of wheels and I'm a pedestrian.

The good news is the bike got off lightly. A bent hanger, which is
replaceable an a few adjustments and it should be good to go again after
    the clavicle knits.

Dumbass: let me be the first to say get well soon. Crashing sucks, and
being wiped out on a group ride because some riders don't know how to
ride in a paceline sucks a lot.

Heal up: there's always cyclocross season, and then track racing.

And to all you kids out there: this is why you don't buy the aluminum
frame with a welded-on derailer hanger. I don't care how many grams
those bolts cost, they're worth it.

Earned the crash award last year, now own an aluminum bike with a
    welded-on derailer hanger,

A riding buddy of mine told me of the crash this morning and that
someone "broke their collarbone." Luckily I don't do the ride much
any more (yah, too old and fat) and missed it. Sorry to hear you were
the unlucky one. Broken collarbones suck.

Too old? Kelly stills shows up! Fat? Ditch the beer und brats! ;-)

The first thought on my mind was, "the bike, how's my bike?"

Nice we have some paramedics in the group and Terry has been a great
help, hauling my carcass from the ER, picking up the bike and checking
    up on me.

Hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm anxious to get back on it. I'm sure
the morning will bring the joys of pain as yet unheralded, but it's like
that last brutal climb when the legs are all in, I'll have to go through
    it, too.

About time to hit the sack. Shoulder is proclaiming its discomfort.

At least the one-handed typing does not seem to form any sort of obstacle
    for you. Get well!

Hehe, yep, had him yelling in my ear for 25 years now. I guess I
shouldn't have used the word old - just fat!

    Mmm... Brats. 🙂

    Heal fast,

Seems to be going around, mine was 5 weeks ago, yesterday a guy on my local
team did his up good, I think a Saunier-Duval (sp?) guy busted his today,
and now you. Hopefully they can get you in a figure-8 splint in the next
couple of days. They gave me mine on day 3. It should help immensely,
keeping your shoulder pulled back (which feels better) and freeing up your
arm to give you more mobility. If they don't offer you one, ask about it.

You'll be glad to know that I was able to "race" today, can't sprint, but
the broken ribs were more the limiting factor than the collarbone. I'm sure
you will heal up fast too. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice on the splint, I'll ask about. Should be seeing
doc today. Hate the way vicodin makes me feel, but needed it to get out
of bed this morning. Looking forward to getting back on the bike ASAP

Chris Miller showed me a shoebox of pictures his brother took of his
racing in the 70's Kelly looked like the old man of the peloton then,
    too, with his beard.

Try taking 2 Aleves (or generic naproxen sodium, 220mg), you can take it
with Tylenol (acetaminophen) if you have to, and you can probably skip the
    Vicodin.

You should be able to get on the trainer by the end of the week, if not
sooner. Try raising the front wheel so you can sit more upright on the
saddle w/o feeling like you're going to slide off, because you will probably
not want to hold onto the bars much, even with one hand, until at least week
    2. Maybe put a wider, comfier saddle on there, if you have one. I ended
up just going to the gym and hopping on one of those god-awful Lifecycles
for the first week, because getting on my bike just seemed too hard, but I
had other injuries to deal with.

Give us an update when you can!
