I don't see any reason why not, the metal one should work fine with
the new BB.

I know what you mean about the plastic ring not feeling right, but in
fact, they give no problems. I have a metal ring on an Ultegra BB on
one bike, and a plastic ring on a UN52 on another, and the plastic one
is just as functional as the metal.

I've swapped it from bike to bike, and re-installed it a couple of
times recently too, when faffing about with chain line, and the
plastic ring shows no sign of weakness.

Use the metal one if you prefer, but there's probably not a lot in it

I knackered a plastic BB lockring by virtue of a crossed thread -
completely ripped it to pieces, in fact - fortunately I had a spare off
the old BB and managed to fit that one properly.

I don't know what happens if you cross the threads on a metal BB
lockring, but I expect it is more likely to cause damage to the BB
shell. Don't know about you, but I'd rather knacker the [easily
replaceable] lockring than the BB shell...

So, probably a good idea to be /extra/ careful when installing a metal
lockring. Just in case.

I know nothing about the relative merits performance-wise of metal v
plastic lockrings.
