  1. I'm riding along and this huge bug decides to
kamikaze right into my face. Actually it
resoundingly hit a front tooth. I was surprised &
aghast, and I sure didn't want to swallow or inhale
the damn thing. Somehow I managed to grasp the li'l
bugger between my lips like a cigarette, draw a quick
breath, and expel it like a very large watermelon
seed -- Phfffooooo! The whole process was very
expiditious. I felt a little sting in my upper lip but
it quickly subsided. I pulled over to check in my mirror
to see if there was a bee stinger embedded in there, but
there wasn't. It must've been a yellowjacket; I seem to
have a partial immunity to those things, and I guess it
didn't get a full chance to get me good. I can still feel
    it, but it doesn't hurt.

    Stoopid bugs.

Nevertheless, I hope my wee nemesis survived the
encounter as well as I did. I think it probably
did. And I'm glad it didn't fly up my cutoffs instead.

    cheers,
    Tom

That yellow jacket is having a REAL bad week - almost getting swallowed by
    two crazy cyclists.

I almost did. I hope the bug was similarly disgusted
about being soaked in people slobber. Today I can still
feel a little pinprick-like sensation where he got me.

It was one of those situations where you can see the
willful deliberateness in the bug's trajectory. He
definitely /wanted/ to fly into me for some reason.
Maybe in a previous life he was a bike-hating car driver.

    cheers,
    Tom

Once my sister got hit in the eye by a bee, it didn't sting but it was
about the size of a baseball and her eye got all red. A friend of mine
had a bee go up his nose, not all the way- he blew it out. EVERYTHING
    GOES UP HIS NOSE.... lol.

  9. I was climbing a steep hill and sucking air in hard. I brushed
against a Scot's Broom bush and a hundred honeybees flushed out. I
sucked one right down and there was no chance to spit it out.
Everything seemed fine for a couple of minutes. Then, I began to feel
something stuck in my throat. I thought that the bee had crawled back up
and I tried to hack it up with no success. It got larger and more
troublesome and I finally realized that the bee had stung me in the
throat, on the way down. That insect was the last solid food I had for
two days. I calculated its nutritive value at about 6 calories. My
throat swelled so much, I could only swallow sips of water. I'm
normally only slightly reactive to stinging and biting bugs. I guess
tender internal parts aren't so resistant. Lucky it didn't go into my
windpipe before it carried out its final deed.

Better than having stuff come out his nose :-)

Speaking of which, I guess it's not very sociable
to make people laugh when they're eating chow mein.

    My sympathy.
I had a similar experience with a ground bee a few years ago.
I'm not reactive either, but when it stung me inside the mouth
I had a lot of swelling. I was luckier than you -- the
swelling didn't block me from eating because of where I was
    stung.

Stoopid bug? Your stoopid yellow jacket was smart enough to go back a week
in time and sting me just above my left eye last Sunday, causing it to swell
up and virtually close completely (yellow jackets & I don't get along very
well; it's not an allergic reaction per se, but the swelling is pretty
darned impressive, whether it's on my eye, arm or tail end). Grrrr. Sorry I
can't feel quite as charitable as you towards the little buggers. A regular
old bee isn't much different for me than a mosquito bike, but a yellow
jacket is not something I enjoy crossing paths with.

Silly boy. It's very good for intestinal health to have a good balance of
flora and fauna in one's gastrointestinal tract.

after that, on thursday, it stung me on the right thigh, when I brushed
the little [censored] off, it got me again. Swelling's minimal, but hard, and
    ohhhh, the damn itching.

Hurt like a motha when it got me too, like being bitten by a terrier. LOL
