Oh, you mean Mario Cipollini? Yes, he should have been there for the 1st week because his team may
have been able to set him up in order to give Petacchi some competition. I personally would have
liked to have seen that match-up again this year (especially in the TdF), even if they both had
eventually dropped out on the 1st day in the mountains.

It could have been a nice compettion.

I don't think they like each other that much. So why not a competition "who is the one who can
finish the Tour with a win on the Champs Elysees?" (better than "who wins the most etappes in 1/3 of
the Tour?"😉

Maybe next year?

Had he been there, some of the late stage pileups in the first week of racing might have been
avoided. Making the race even more exciting since some of the early favorites would still be in the
race, or not racing injured. When the Cipo lead out train gets going, you end up with a single file
pretty much all the way to the finishing straight.

I think it would have been better. SInce Petacchi bailed ,the green jersey competition has been less
than thrilling. Zabel isn't much of a factor this year, McEwen is having all kinds of trouble. And
it would have been entertaining to see Cipo come out of the start house at the prologue wearing some
wacky skinsuit!

That's true, and Cipo has never finished the Tour. But he has finished the Giro, like last year. And
in the WC jersey he'd probably make a big effort to do it justice. I can see him making it through
the alps, but I think he would have bailed in the Pyrenees.
