As one who was off the front (in a charity ride) and got chased down by Armstrong, I have to say
that there is a certain thrill to being caught by him. In the TdF, when you see the Yellow Jersey on
attack come up, you know you're seeing history go by. Of course I have no idea how Chavanel felt. I
think it was a sympathetic gesture.

OK, so what is the proper/classy/respectful thing to do in that situation? How about "nice riding Silvain - come with me if you can." That's probably something like what he said. It didn't look like a "pat on the back" to me.

One more thing -- I'm not sure if this was mentioned. He didn't even salute after he got over the
line (I just saw the RAI RealVideo). He's saving his salute for Paris. Today was no victory. It was
a step towards victory.

I'll wager that Lance's tres mediocre french (This is not a criticism, just a statement of fact,
it's actually gotten worse since last year. He's getting more confused as his Spanish gets better, a
common occurrence.) when he's riding full out up the last climb of the day is next to non-existant.
I ride a bike in Paris everyday, and it wasn't until I was speaking way better than Lance does now
that I could easily converse in French on the bike while cranking it out, especially just a phrase
as passed someone without a context was very tough.

Chevenal turns to his right and says something that is kind of obscured from the camera by his
shoulder. How often do we see Lance, or anyone else putting their hand on somebody just because
they're passing somebody. With the way motorcycles fly past riders I think there is an unwritten
rule that you should never swerve because something might run into you.

I wouldn't know about that. But in that stage the situation was very similar to Monday's stage, so
perhaps it was situational.
