  1. I am seriously allergic to cigerette smoke, pollen, and dust.
    but mostly cig smoke.

I have tried every available non-perscription allergy medication, and
    nothing
works. I've even mixed them up, taken double-doses of stuff, even
    taken 3-4
different types at once. Still, without any effect on me at all.

occasionally I may feel a bit "light headed" but the allergic reaction
to whatever I get is usually worse, so the effect is almost not
    noticiable.

I saw my doctor who said sinusitus and, well I cant remember the other
    name.
Perscribed flonase. well, turns out I'm allergic to that too.
Most often I get some blood when I sneeze (its been like this for
    years).
when I took the flonase for about 2 weeks, I suddenly "sneezed" a
    whopping
2 tablespoons of blood. Needless to say, I stopped taking it.
Doctor says theres nothing else I can take, all the other drugs (like
rhinocort aqua) etc are all related.

other weird thing is when I was growing up, I always had a pet cat,
until I was about 18. Now, suddenly over the last few years, I am
allergic to cat and dog hair. I have no idea what this is about.

So anyone have any brilliant ideas? would accupunture help at all? is
there a herbal method (hint - I already tried the over the counter
    zicam stuff) with no results.

very rarely I'll take a drug (or herbal) and itll actually work for
about 2 weeks, then suddenly it'll just stop, its like I'm taking
    sugar pills. its very strange.

thanks anyhow, sorry if its off-topic

Avoid the smoke. If that means curtailing your night life and
telling friends who smoke that thye have to step outside and that
you will no longer be visiting them, so be it.

Here's an herbal remedy ... anecdotal statements that it works
from people who have tried it on my recommendation, with a
scientifically plausible method of action shown in some German
    research.

Take Echinacea ... I use "Nature's way" capsules. It takes about
a month to show an effect. Take 6 a day for a week (distributed
any way you want). Take 4 a day for the next week. Then take 2
a day for the rest of your life.

It suppresses the release of histamine from "mast cells", which
means it prevents release of the chemical most responsible for
the inflammation and other symptoms of upper respiratory
allergies. It will NOT be enough to let you live or hang out with
smokers or spend time in smoky bars, but will minimize the
effects of occasional exposure to cigarette smoke - like when you
    walk past them.

Yep, Echinacea weakens your immune system, in a way. Isn't nature amazing!

  4. Hi
Niacin (Vitamin B3) is supposed to have anti histamine effects.
Watch out for the flushing (red rash) though.

Oddly, its other proven effect is to stimulate phagocytosis ...
which makes it a nice way to help clear out that cruddy stuff
that accumulates in the lungs during a cold.

    Say it ain't so ...

Sorry ... but you have to keep the mast cells downtrodden and
oppressed or they start over-reacting again and the allergies
    come back.

    Get another doctor, for one.

There are several nonsteroidal nasal sprays that
help a lot with chronic inflammation. One, which
I tend to prefer, is plain normal saline -- water.
Rather on the "all natural" side, that, and it
keeps the mucosa from drying out (a major cause
    of irritation.)

Another is cromolyn sodium nasal spray, which
acts to stop mast cell degranulation. Also
without the long-term side-effects of steroids.

Yet another is some sort of ammonia salt (I
forget the name; had some several years ago.)
Some people get great results, some hate it.

    Tsu Dho Nimh prefers echinacea.

    YMMV.

what about walking outside, down the street? yes, its that bad.
    already taking echineacia (erg).

It has to be WHOLE HERB, not homeopathic or tincture ... based on
what worked and did not work for a couple of co-workers.

btw the other word I couldnt remember was rhinitus, yes, I have that too.
and with cig smoke, my hands get red, swollen and itchy.

thanks for all the suggestions. btw isnt magnesium oxide as one person suggested
the same stuff thats in tums/rolaids?? i forgot.

read the label. I think it's calcium.

  9. No!

Rolaids and Tums contain calcium carbonate. Rolaids contain some magnesium
oxide but not enough to be effective for much.

even the slightest whiff of smoke can do this.
    its really very annoying.

ok, I give up. how do I get the "whole herb" from where? names/brands please?
at the moment I am using Jamieson natural sources brand.
1200mg of echinaceea high potency formula. taking 6 a day of these now.
this is 1:6 powdered extract... if that helps

  11. Blood type O should not take enchinacea! It caused agglutination of the
blood. Get away from the fad herbs with all their hype.
