  1. Angela, you urge us to read up on homeopathy. I assure you I and some
others here are well informed about this 200-year old "system" of medicine.

I ask you whether you have ever read and considered a huge amount of
material that can be stacked against the various principles of homeopathy?

How do you cope with the following---.

The "like cures like" principle -- what examples in healing can you provide
    where this ancient principle holds?
The provings (proving something is a useful medical treatment by noting
toxic effects in normal people -explain how this works)
The "psora" as the basic cause of all illness (not brought up much these
days, because that is more obviously a product of medieval superstition)
That a substance becomes more potent through dilution and succussion (can
you think of any example in normal life where this occurs?)
That patients with the same medical diagnosis eg typhoid, diabetes will
    merit quite different treatment.
A lot of other stuff - transferring potency to a dry tablet- a supremely
complex but never validated "system" for choosing remedies.

It is not enough to claim "it works, so all these things must be true".
Taking into account the amazing recovery powers of the human body and
placebo effects, any kind of "treatment" at all can appear to work, in the
kinds of contexts within which homeopaths operate.

That is why we have dozens of competing, equally dubious alternative
"cures". (Homeopathy is not competing with conventional medicine- it is
competing against things like chiropractic, applied kinesiology,
    aromatherapy, acupuncture.)

PS I am not fond of quoting Hippocrates. Those supporting benign but
useless treatments for serious illnesses do. I was showing that referring
to a two thousand year old authority on medicine is a bit futile, especially
    when done selectively.

Incidentally, The closest I can find to "first do no harm" is ---
As to diseases make a habit of two things - to help, or at least, to do no
    harm.

    Hippocrates, Epidemics

Not quite the same thing, and reflecting the fact that .there were very few
effective treatments for any diseases in those days, as Hippocrates knew.

I'm curious about "homeopathic first aid." How does one
    use homeopathy for:

    * broken bones (break a smaller bone?)
    * arterial bleeding (needle stick?)
    * second- and third-degree burns (first-degree burn?)
    * cardiac arrest (???)

I spend a lot of time doing first aid, and I'm truly
    baffled.'''

Actually D.C. I couldn't find any other serious replies. Also, I know
what to expect if I reply to your seemingly innocuous questioning so I
will start: Smaller bone? - you mean like a toe? Perhaps you could
tell everyone what you do for this condition. Absolutely squat. I
know I just broke my toe.

I have no idea what a "homeopathic first aid" would be for
    a broken bone -- that's why I asked. "Break[ing] a smaller
bone" is just the closest I could come to "treating like
    with like" for a fracture.

As for what I do as first aid for broken bones, the answer
is to "first, do no harm:" immobilize the fracture and the
joints above and below the break, so that the sharp bone
ends don't do any more damage to tissues around the break.

If circulation, motion, or sensation has been compromised
distal to an apparent displaced fracture, I *may* attempt
(once) to gently align the limb allowing restoration of
normal blood and nerve supply. If that fails, I upgrade
their status to emergency and get them transported stat.

Either way, get them to definitive care (orthopaedist)
as soon as practicable. Those sharp little things need
to be in their proper places for good healing, not to
mention potentially needing to repair damage secondary
to the fracture itself. *That* is not something I
    would dream of attempting.

He provides the shield for nature and protects the injured part
against its enemies, so that the force without may not [censored], poison,
or injure the forces of nature, but may preserve its vital power. He
who takes good care of wounds is a good

I have posted 868 messages since Oct. 1997 according to the google
scorekeeper. I really haven't posted even that many - the threads are
included in the 868. I think I have a posting history, though not as
    illustrious as Mark Probert's 78,600.

None of the above came close to answering the question,
"what is homeopathic first aid?" even in general, much
less for the specific cases I mentioned.

  6. Angela,

To make this question easier to answer, even though I didn't ask it, try to
    imagine this:

I work in a heavy industrial environment with plenty of automatic equipment
and lots of heavy manual handling. When things go wrong (and they don't too
often any more) you can often expect lacerations, broken bones, severe
brusing, heat burns and strained backs.
What homeopathic remedies should I be stocking my first aid kits with?
When should I use them in conjunction with conventional first aid?
When should I use then instead of regular first aid?
    A few examples should suffice.

    Regards,

    Doug

diluted ... if someone has convulsions, they get strychnine (a

So what would a homeopath do as first aid for a broken bone or

Well, you could use hopeopathic remedies when the minor

There are no peer-reviewed, replicated, RCTs that show it DOESN'T work!

Classic homeopathy uses "the hair of the dog that bit you", but
diluted ... if someone has convulsions, they get strychnine (a
poison that causes massive convulsions) highly diluted. The
theory is that like cures like.

So what would a homeopath do as first aid for a broken bone or
    arterial bleeding?

In the case of a person hit by a car, they would select the homeopath would
select the most similar matchbox car, put it in a beaker,

Can you prove it DOESN'T work?

    We need some volunteers...

I've repeatedly offered people like Debbee1023, JanDrew, GymmieBob, Rod_Munch,
rb, & JBain the opportunity to participate in a similar homepathic "proving"
for skin reactions to plain, bar soap.

If you saw Full Metal Jacket, you can get a good idea as to my proposed
methodology. There will be no placebo group and the subjects will may need
    several treatments....over several years.

    Regards,

    Doug

    Hello Doug,

Since you took the time to ask in a reasonable manner, I will give you
a brief overview of some of the remedies you might run in to.

Arnica - I keep Arnica 30C on hand at all times.

Arnica 30 deals with bruising of soft parts and removes the shock of
    an accident.

Ruta 6 or 12 is for bruised bones and should follow arnica when
    required.

Symphytum 30 should be given for broken bones after being properly set
by the surgeon and NOT before.

Hypericum 12 or 30 should be used for nerve lacerations or injuries to
nerve endings such as finger tips or toes.

Ledum 6 or 12 is for puncture wounds.

Ledum 200 for black eye with Arnica at the beginning to remove shock
    of accident.

Cantharis 30C for burns. Urtica Urens 30C for scalds with hot water.

These are a few of the remedies for the conditions you mentioned.
There is a lot to learn. Although you can buy these remedies, I
wouldn't recommend that you do this. There are a lot of homeopathic
first aid books, however, you really need to go to a Homeopathic
practioner(MD) and find out how to use the remedies and what remedies
you can use with your regular first aid treatment.

Not everybody would be willing to have the homeopathic treatment,
although surprisingly the real world is not as resistant as some on
this group would have you believe. You would have to know which of
your staff would like to have homeopathic treatment in combination
    with the regular first aid.

I don't recommend anybody use homeopathic medicine without reading
about it first and deciding that it is what they want to do and then
talking to a licensed doctor or practioner of homeopathic medicine.

    Best wishes. Angela.
