Blue Bidons

The red Coke botttles have been the norm for many years, but today the riders were taking blue water bottles from the "Aquarel"(?) motorbike on the last climb. Any info? Regards! Stephen

The red Coke botttles have been the norm for many years, but today the riders were taking blue water

There are two kind of motorbikes now : the ones with the blue Aquarel bottles and the bikes with the
coca-cola bottles. (It's not new, this was also last year)

I think they sell both as collectors items. IIRC the blue bidons have maps of France on them.

I'm intreged by the stubbie little cans that look like coke cans but when one of these guys cracks
it open and CHUGS it down I have a hard time believing that it's the real thing...

For serious man. Some guys won't touch it, especially during the race. If you notice, they take
publicity photos of the stage winners drinking it. In addition, some guys will take a sip if they
start to bonk and others drink even more. I think Coca Cola owns Powerade so maybe they fill some
bidons with that too. I have not been to a Tour IRL since Powerade has been around so I don't know,
that is just a guess.

If you've (I've) got phlegm restrictring your throat to 50% its normal width, a massive chugging of
Coke (or any other cool carbonated beverage) is wonderful.

It is Coke, very useful for a short term energy boost. Another trick is to half fill a bidon with
Coke & top it off with water. By the time you come to drink it its gone flat but is still a good
pick me up.

I've drank straight Coke in a race -- it works well. De-fizzed is better, but I've done it
out of a can.
