    'Ape diet' equals cholesterol drugs

TORONTO, Ontario, July 25 (UPI) -- A diet composed of specific plant foods can
lower cholesterol as effectively as conventional drug treatment, Canadian
    researchers have discovered.

  2. There you go - apes can't be wrong!
I think their diet contains a lot of statin like chemicals and
phytochemicals as well as copious amounts of lysine and vitamin c.
This doesn't explain why a bears blood cholesterol is much higher than ours
and they don't suffer heart disease like we do.
It also doesn't explain why pigeons get heart disease, and yet they
synthesise vitamin c in their liver.
Seems like both theories have flaws.
I'm thinking about dropping my juicing habit and going to all natural 'eat
    the peel as well approach'
    Thanks
    Anth

Just as effective as drugs (maybe a little more boring) but it works none
    the less.

  4. Also the diet approach is better than the drug for the following reasons :-

    +
    (1) No side effects - therefore 'safe'
    (2) Overall health improvement such as cancer rates reduced.

    -
    (1) It's also hard to do.
    (2) Takes time vs popping a pill

Why don't they just teach more on nutrition and diet in med school ? *sigh*

Oh, Anth, have you fallen for that old pro-alt chestnut about
nutrition not being taught in medical school?

These are my opinions only, but they're almost always correct.

Actually, the chestnut is based on equivocation over what "nutrition"
means. From a lot of "alt" POVs, it means "using megadoses of dietary
supplements to cure diseases" or "curing diseases through dietary
modification alone." And using that definition, medical schools indeed do
not teach "nutrition" (except when it comes to the treatment of deficiency
diseases or excess diseases). People who use "nutrition" in that sense
wouldn't accept what medical students are actually taught as being
    "nutrition."
