The Ranger said:Clan Ranger is headed South for The Great Clan Reunion in Boerne. We
(the royal usage) will be driving and taking in the sights, sounds, and
most importantly, the cuisine of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas during
our journey. The route we're "planning" out right now is pretty
straight-forward, Routes 40 (E) to 17 (S) to 10 (E) in Arizona, 10 (E)
to 70/82 (NE), and finally 70 (E) to 380 (E).
My clan's tastes are eclectic but we will probably steer clear of
Chinese, Thai, and Indian since we have so many choices local to us.
The trip is going to be 21 days so this will give us time to play
tourist along each leg. Are there certain stops that just can't be
missed (or conversely, some that should have military quarantining)?
Many thanks!

Have you ever been to Balmorhea, TX? The springs are way cool--24
million gallons of water a day bubbling out of the arid west TX
chaparral. There's an old CCC state park there. The spring is
actually in Toyahvale, by the way, where I once ate an outstanding
plate of huevos rancheros at a small family diner.

I truly love the Trans Pecos region of Texas. You might check out
Marfa if you or any of your clan is interested in modern/contemporary
art. The Chinati foundation is there. http://www.chinati.org/ Be
sure to call ahead or email for an appointment. It's worth the
trouble, by the way. Some folks fly in to Midland from Germany and
drive rental cars down to Marfa so they can see it.
Melon season is nigh and Pecos melons are legendary.

But you probably already know all this.
