No one thought it would be a blowout last year.

No one thought it would be so close the year before.

Predicting the Tour is like predicting the weather - you're accurate for three to four days, at best.

However, only one person has won it for the last six years, and he isn't planning on coming in second this year, either.

Either Lance wins it, or he ends up riding in support of Popo, and Basso wins. Ullrich doesn't have the drive to win, and Vino won't get the team support he needs when Ullrich breaks - they'll all be too busy looking out for themselves. Vino will still finish third or fourth, despite this. Floyd will finish off the podium but in the top 5 or 6. Popo will be in the top 10 too, because Lance may be behind him, pushing. Levi will be a few places back. Julich will definitely be in the top 20, maybe the top 10.

Whatever happens, there will be an inordinately high number of Americans in the top 10, so don't think you can get off easy after Lance retires. We're here to stay.

For the record, I'd love to see someone other than Armstrong win this year. I just don't think it will happen. We shall see.

This is the best year for America at the Tour, ever. No question. Armstrong, Landis and Leipheimer will all figure in some measure and are all safe bets for the top 20.

I doubt Landis or Leipheimer will ever win the Tour, but I figure both for high placings. Gerolsteiner could sure use a win.

Levi, by the way, is quickly becoming one of my favorite riders. He's humble, tough, and charming. I still think of him as a bit of a wheel suck, but he's impressed me with determination and quiet ambition....

I think Armstrong will win, but not quite as big as some are predicting. Remember, eventhough Popo and Salvi are good riders, they are new to the team, and Popo is riding in his first TDF I believe, and TDF in the mountains are not friendly to first time riders. The TTT, the lost of Ekimov will hurt. So at theis moment, I am not sure about the continuity of the team, compared to teams like CSC. They could end up being better, but until they show it off, its a question mark.
