Take three packed cups of fresh washed basil, 1 cup of olive oil, 3 cloves of garlic, 2 2.5oz bags of pine nuts and 1.5 cups parmesano regiano and put in a blender and puree.
Stop blender from time to time and with plastic spatula, push unblended mix down.
Keep pushing unblended contents down until... YOU FORGET TO TURN OFF THE BLENDER AND STICK THE SPATULA AND TOP CONTENTS INTO THE BLADE.

Remove remaining 2/3s of spatula!!!
Toss contents in trash.
Make tuna fish sandwiches.
Kick me!
I've done it. I also broke my blender the last time I made pesto 🙂

Yep. I did more or less the same thing the other week. I was making garden pea soup and was pureeing the cooked peas. Unfortunately I was pushing the peas down with a metal tablespoon.
The spoon came out looking like one of Uri Geller's party tricks. Worst of it, though, was that those damn peas /exploded/ out of the blender. The puree was up the front of the kitchen cabinets, down the side of the fridge and in the toaster. The not-yet-pureed peas went everywhere else. I'll still finding them in unexpected places.

I did the same thing with a wooden spoon not too long ago. The spoon splintered a bit, but more than enough for me to think about a rescue effort. Probably wasn't too good for the blade either. Fortunately it was a second batch, and I still had enough to continue my plans. Now I use the pulse button.

Somehow tuna pesto sounds good.
It was supposed to go over a few batches of rotini. 🙁
Heh heh heh. I actually poked around in the pesto looking for pieces of plastic and thinking for a moment "how bad cound that be on the old digestive tract?" Then my better judgement kicked in.
