I believe that is Tax AND Duty. I think they apply the duty first then VAT
on the original price + the duty. Then the post office charge you a small
fee for collecting the tax and duty for the government.

I got a Garmin Legend of ebay last night from £69 + £15 for shipping,
tax, duty (the seller pays it).

Only difference is it is the US model so has the US basemap instead of
the Europe basemap loaded but from research I've done the supplied
basemaps are not very detailed (major roads only) so not suitable for
the purpose of walking (you can load your own maps) which is what I'll
be using the unit for (plus geocaching) - apart from that it's the same
unit.

The cheapest price I could find in the UK was £135, but most other
places were £170 - which I think retailers are taking advantage of
with Garmins RRP in the US is $170 = £100, so it's made sense to save
£51 on the cheapest uk price. If you do bid then take your time, I
spent 3 weeks before winning an item - alot went over my budget, bid
with you maximum bid 1min before it ends, don't get in a frenzy bidding
as these units come up daily.

I hope that it works for you, but by talking with a few people buying
various items over value of £18.00 from overseas (outside EEC); despite what
the seller states regards them paying the duty and VAT and the "Green
Customs Sticker" that may say "gift", some get pulled by customs.

If yours does then you will have import duty which I think is about 20% on
the value of the goods (I don't know how they decide the value), then they
add VAT to the new total and the declared postal costs.

A bill is prepared then it continues through the postal service where the
Post Office add there collection fee to the value (£5.00 I believe).

As I said you may get away with it as many do - but if you do not your only
recouyse is to leave the seller appropriate feedback - and even then I guess
that it is cheaper than buying in the UK, just more than you thought.

Yes, I bought an Etrex cable on Ebay last week, the seller has several of
these available each day, I kept being outbid, on my 4th bit I got it at the
'base' price.

Perhaps it is true, some people do have more money than sense!
