What's happening out at Lakeside soon? What has happened to Nudgee? Any

Lakeside next Sat 2/7 at 1:30pm and then again on the 16/7, I think
various clubs will run races at Nudgee from time to time. I would guess
HPRW will have more races there next year since this years program is
already set, permits applied for etc. I don't think any one club is
going to run a race there every week like Balmoral does at Murarrie. I
don't know how people do it really. I'd get bored doing the same course
every week.

For some variety try a TT at Closeburn the week after on 9/7. No nasty
boys can sit on your wheel there.

**NUNDAH CRIT CIRCUIT CLUB RACING will commence with the first HPRW event being on 6 August. Visitors welcome.**

Crestmead is run in the industrial estate. It's all pretty flat, just a slight hill on the southern part of magnesium drive. They run a few different circuits out there. It'd be about 20km flat ride out from Mt Gravatt.

Like Bruce says Lakeside is good, C grade would be a bit easier than Cat 2 I reckon and D grade is always a handicap. There's a race there this saturday and then 3 weeks after that (16th July).

9-10th July? Murrarie,Crestmead, Claymore (up the sunshine coast) and Ipswich. Also Hamilton century/half century on the sunday which you're welcome to come along to. The saturday Closeburn TT is a club only event though.

I assume you mean the club criterium championships the other week where
visitors weren't allowed to race. That only happens once a year, plus a
Club TT and Club road championship. At all other club races visitors
are welcome and I'm fairly sure they'd be welcome at the TT since
you're not going to get in anyone's way.

That one wasn't aimed at you. When I was starting out any race was
great but some people seem to race at Murarrie every Saturday of the

Yeah I'm not a big fan of TTs myself. It's much more motivating riding
against other riders than a clock.

Closeburn is between Samford and Dayboro, the course goes out to
Dayboro and back, about 34km. What's on a Lakeside 24/7? If it involves
running or swimming not a chance. Besides that's the date of the State
TeamsTT and with a few new guys in the Club this year we might be in
with a good chance of not coming last this year.

Given I don't have a Team, that day's free for me. Although last year I

Are they still on?? Just looking for leverage to convince the wife and
kiddies what a good idea it would be to head out to Closeburn and do a

The markets haven't been at Closeburn for many years. The markets moved
to Dayboro Road Petrie and are called the North Pine Country Markets I
think it was in the late 80's. The races at Closeburn start at the
Closeburn Hall which is the same place the markets used to be.

Samford is still a great place to visit with the family though. There's
a great gift shop and also a hut in the park that sells local art and
craft, several nice cafes and the pub has recently been refurbished. So
yes, come out for a combined race/family-day-out excursion...**

How old are your kids? I have two girls 4.4 and 0.58 years. I bring the
whole family to races sometimes, there's a few families at some races
so I'm sure yours would feel welcome. Lakeside is a better place as far
a watching the race goes, Closeburn they'd just see the start and the
finish. Though my 4 year old has decided it's boring watching Daddy go
'round and 'round at Lakeside now.

Was just scoping out the Refidex, and it does indeed look like a ~20km
ride from Mt Gravatt out to Magnesium Drive for the Crestmead Crits...

Pretty straightforward, and just for a change Tam has less distance to
ride than me!!

Although I don't fancy the 20km ride home if I wipe myself out on the
crit... Better pack an extra gel packet (or three) for that one...

I just use the grid squares in the print refidex to figure out how far
it is. (Then I complain later when I run 35 km instead of 30, because of
poor accuracy.)
