I'm going to start my trip, this year, by starting at Lescun where I'm going
to get the old muscles stretched before venturing forth on the High Route.
Must admit it's great to be thinking about Lescun again - what a superb
little place!

Those [censored] farmers near Urdos will have probably finished it off before I
get there!

##possibly not. everyone is keeping a close eye on things and it was
sighted near the Somport pass earlier this year
.. Brown bear cub survives winter -
Tracks of a young brown bear found near the French side of Somport
tunnel,
between the valleys of Aspe and Ossau are thought to belong to the
orphaned
cub of Canelle, a female bear shot by hunters in November 2004. The find
is
significant as Canelle was the last fertile native female brown bear in
the
Pyrenees and experts were dubious about the cub's survival chances over
the
winter. On the Spanish side of the border, in Val d´Aran, bears have
recently attacked and killed two sheep. Date: May 30, 2005 Source: La
Vanguardia
cheers

I suppose they can cross the border near Somport/Candachu although the live
mainly in woodland? Still, let's hope that this young one survives.
