pinging in Rolf Vector Pros

'Pinging' is often caused by overly advanced ignition. Now that you've
eliminated the other common causes - spokes.

Actually, the problem is where the spokes cross on the rear wheel. A drop of
oil at their intersection will temporarily quiet things down. I have yet to
find a permanent fix. The bizarre thing is that it can be weather-dependent
(temperature & humidity).

Tear down the wheel completely.
Use shrink-wrap tubing at either of the two intersections.
Rebuild.
Done!

Y'know, that seems pretty obvious, but I never thought of it. You wouldn't
have to entirely tear down the wheel though; on a Rolf Vector Pro, you can
remove (actually just disconnect) one spoke at a time, install the
shrink-wrap tubing, reconnect the spoke and you'd be done. You're only doing
1/4 of the spokes in the wheel, so not a big deal. I do wonder how long the
shrink-wrap tubing would last though, but it might be worth a try.
