I'm having a lot of problems getting Look cleats onto either of my two pairs of shoes (Duegi and Diadoras). I noticed for one thing that the cleats that Bianchi threw in with my bike came with two different sized screws (12mm and ab. 19mm), with the red and black cleat respectively. But I think the problem I'm having involves excessive curvature on these shoes, which appears to be pulling the cleat up slightly and makes it impossible to screw all the way in. Last time I rode, I had a lot of trouble disengaging, because I think the shoe was not actuating the cleat, which stayed bound to the pedal. Should I try to scrap off the bottom of the cleat or what other creative ideas are out there?
I had this same problem in 1986 when I tried to mount Look black cleats onto Look shoes. The soles had too much curvature, such that the cleats would not engage the pedals. I made shims out of cardboard and shimmed the rear of the cleats so that, when mounted, they didn't curve any more than they did before mounting. Then everything worked fine for years.
BTW, I've always wondered what kind of a dumb-ass company would make shoes, cleats and pedals that won't work together.
