  1. I've entered my first tri, the Tinman in July. Never even ridden a
road bike but have ordered a Cervelo Soloist and should have it in a
week or two. Never swam until 2 weeks ago, but I ran a 1:29 Half
    Marathon last week.

I'm full on into training but don't want to burn out. Been running
about 40 miles a week, swim 3 times a week for about an hour each time.
No biking yet, since no bike.

Do have enough training to complete the TinMan in July?

Any advice for a tri rookie?

    Mahalo!

I am assuming for a first tri you are doing the sprint not the 1/2IM. As
long as you are comfortable in open water for the swim and take it easy on
the bike you should be able to finish with out much specific training. Be
careful on the bike. Being new to the road bike and triathlon your biggest
risk is a crash on the bike course.

Back off on the running. 40 miles a week will take away from bike/swim
time. The hardest thing coming into triathlon from a single sport
background is to ease up the training in your strong sport and achieve a
good balalnce. Add a short 1-2 mile run after every bike ride for the month
prior to the race. Get a good fitting on your new bike and build up slowly.
Very small errors in the bike fit can cause painfull problems that are made
worse by too many miles at first.

    Good luck.

yes- PLEASE don't be that guy whose handling skills don't equal his strength
on the bike. I am sitting here with a broken collar bone and at least 3
broken ribs because of such a guy. Slightly different situation, since it
was a bike race, not a triathlon, but if you are that inexperienced, you
need to watch out for your fellow competitors. I'm supposed to be at the
U.S. elite national championships today (for cycling). Instead i'm sitting
    here reading the newsgroups... :-(

I was competing in a master men's bike race, and staying at the front
because of some sketchy looking riders. But one of the sketchy guys was
strong enough to be right up there with me. We were rounding a corner, and
he tried to cut the inside line, ramming my handlebars in the process.

So, when you get yur bike, have it fitted, practice on it a lot, icluding
cornering and learning how to be smoothe, and ride in a straight line. Stay
to the right unless passing someone, and then signal your intentions if
there is anyone behind you. When passing someone, give them plenty of room,
and make sure you are well past them before moving right again.

I don't think you need to worry about burning out before you even do your
    first race...

    Good luck,
    suz
