  1. I was having silent migraines that would mess me up for hours- no pain, but
sometimes double vision, or just felt crappy for a few hours. Caffeine was
my culprit, which I had to cut back on.

Also- When I started out on Atkins- I needed to eat on a regular schedule- I
was using my food as fuel after all! see if small meals help- almonds or
    cheese cubes.

Hang in there. If you haven't had your physical- do that too. then you know
    nothing more is going on.

Hey all, I just joined this group today, I was looking at posts for
"dizziness" and couldn't really find anything definitive. I was
wondering if anyone had some experience/advice with experiencing
    'dizziness' and what helps...

I've been eating low carb since Feb 25 2005, with great success, I
started due to having acid reflux and seeing an article on the weston
price website about using low carb diets to treat this.

at the time I was pretty much of the mainstream opinion (ignorance)
about lc diets, and was pretty scared to try it.

off i went to the store to buy the protein power lifeplan, used it as
my guide, and voila, acid reflux problem solved (after 3 months of
    suffering and using protonix).

I've used protein power, pplp, atkins new diet rev, and life without
bread as my guides, all books are great and all add new pieces to the
    'puzzle' for me.

anyway that's just to say that i'm not 'just starting out', and i am a
great fan of this woe. my only issue thus far is this strange
dizziness, started last week, and seems to come and go. it lasts for
hours, and is not accompanied by any other symptoms, ie not tired no
headache...get a little nauseous if it lasts too long.

From all I've read it seems too be either from 'electrolyte imbalance'

or 'low blood pressure'? I am otherwise feeling in great health. I
would add that I've also been taking "threelac" for the past month or
so for what I believe to be sub-clinical candida (based on the fact
that my body temperature is low). maybe it's from "yeast die-off" or
    something?

Dunno, meals don't help at all, so it's not blood sugar. I don't have
a blood pressure cuff laying around so I can't measure that handily.
This happened before and I started taking potassium pills daily and it
seemed to help, I've just started to do that again so we'll see.

My diet is pretty 'clean', I don't use any 'fake foods' like lc bread,
just eat good meats healthy fats (butter, coconut oil olive oil
no-nitrate bacon, etc) lots o veggies little fruit and good amount of
    nuts.

Is there a sort of 'standard' solution to this among long-term lc
followers? Can't find much about this in any of the books I've read.
I will try all the things I found on the various threads on this group
as well (use Mortons Lite Salt, increase potassium, B vitamins)

Or maybe it's not even diet related???

Any advice or experiences on this are welcome, and I thank and
appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer this, I will add in
closing that I'm not "trolling" and that I am a vociferious fan of low
    carb eating!

  2. Interestingly, I also posted this question on the "protein power" bb
and another poster had mentioned migraines as well. I was wondering
how this could be, since I never had them before, and I NEVER get
headaches. I initially thought it might be caffeine as well, since I
was drinking a fair amount of yerba mate at work. So I quit that, and
did get very mild headaches the first few days from that...but I find
it hard to believe that eating low carb for 3 months would trigger
migraines...doesn't make sense given the hormonal changes that take
place would put you in the positive health direction in terms of
insulin control, + eicasonoid changes, etc...

I drink lots of water and exercise every day (ok 5x a week 😉 so it's
probably not due to those factors. I am in 'good health' and 5'10",
~160lbs, so not in poor physical shape.

Like I said I feel healthy! In fact my existing physical problems all
went away or diminished upon starting this WOE (allergies, insomnia,
reflux, afternoon fatigue), So it may not be diet related at all, Keep
sending advice and I WILL post on here if/when I got it figured out.
    Thanks!

It seems to be you know what... almost 100% of the time I have this
it's during the time I'm looking at a computer screen. I wonder if
    it's my eyes?

  3. Protein advocates several small meals to keep metabolism up. I've never
heard of this on a low-fat diet. And a lot of us are not overweight so we
are burning food as our fuel. We don't have the fat stores for fuel.

    Marengo said:

I don't understand this; I've found exactly the opposite to be the case over
nearly four years on low carb. On Atkins you are no tusing your food as
fuel; you are using the fat that you are burning (ketones) as fuel; that's
the whole point. Many people on Atkins forget to eat meals because we are
not hungry, and have no ill effects becasue we are getting a constant source
    of fuel.

For those of us who are diabetic this effect is even more pronounced,
because we have no highs and lows spiking and dropping blood sugar.

And"several small meals" has nothing whatever to do with a low carb way of
eating; this is a throwback (I'm willing to bet) to your former low-fat diet
days. THis is what low-fat gurus tell their constituents to eat, because
the high-carb low-fat meals cause such a terrific blood sugar spike and drop
that the big carby meals can cause dizziness and weakness. Not so with low
    carb.
