  1. im using cycling as part of my overall get fit healthy and lighter plan along with swimming, walking
and diet ... im currently 22 stone 6 pound and wondered if im on my own being one of the hefty rider
variety seeing as so many of the shops dont cater for larger people?

also, anyone have pointers for the insert type cycle shorts that are sold in large sizes as i could
certainly do with some aid in comfort ... the xxl ones ive seen on some sites are for a waist of
approx 38-40 and thats not quite realistic!

Keep up the good work. I completely agree with you on the sizing problem, not being small myself. Why do manufacturers assume all cyclists are skinny? :-)

The ones I got last time Lidl had a special offer on where on teh large side, so I would suggest you try there, they're cheap as well.

Don't have any advice for you, but an observation: My cycling jacket is a medium, yet cycling
jersies have to be xl to fit!! My cycling jacket is baggy - verging on being too big I sometimes
think - yet the jersies are exceedingly - well - figurehugging, to say the least :-)

What I want to know is, why do there a totally different size between jackets and jersies! (and, I
know most cyclists are ultra-fit skinnyasrakes types, but not ALL of them are) It seems daft that at
least 2/3 of the jackets wouldn't fit the people the jersies are made for!

You might find by looking around you find some cycling shorts that are bigger. Also, some seem more
stretchy, and others seem more see-thru, than others. If you can get hold of some to try on
(enduramax do a good one for mountainbikey types) you might be surprised by some of the size
    difference between different manufacturers.

just having a look at aldi's special offer cycling kit from tomorrow ... i have a local aldi but not
a lidl so i might try that, they are selling some XL shorts for £5.99, might just see how poorly i
can pour myself into these - so long as can get in without being uncomfortable can wear them under
my normal shorts ... will report how well they 'stretch'! 😉

also selling some cycling gloves @ £1.99 so try them too ... and and and
    - this cycling malarky could get out of 'and!!

XXL shorts from Decathlon work for me (similar physique!). Don't bother with their XXL technical
T-Shirts....they were designed for XXL midgets.

If they are the same gloves as last time they are OK. Probably wouldn't suit the equipment fetish
element, but for the recreational rider they are fine.

I bought one of their breathable cycling jackets for £9:99 last time. It is lighter, and as good as
my Goretex. I sweat up in both of them bye the way.

Yes I'm in the same boat. Although sub 19 stone, even I'm struggling to find reasonably sized gear.

Let's hope we can lose enough to fit into the gear eh?

Hehehehe.... and with me being fatbirdonabike on the long and winding road to becoming
slightlypodgybirdonabike, we could make up a team for next year's TdF ;-)

Don't cater for larger people? 22 stone is large, but so long as you are actually able to pedal
without skin and fat getting in the way (and I'm sure you are as I am 18 stone and was 20), you'll
be fine. Frame size is about height not weight.

I bought a mountain bike with fat tyres. I make sure that they are pumped up to 45PSI. And its fine.
However, I rode a Moulton recently which has very thin and small wheels, but at 100psi, and to my
    surprise, that was also fine!

Buy the biggest. I have three pairs. Endura XL will be too tight, I only just fit into them now, but
    they are lovely!

Evans sells Specialized XXL short, which should fit me fine when I was 46". Basically, the nature
of Lycra is that anything XXL should stretch sufficiently to hold to together! However, I keep
the short under rather than over my belly (I let my belly hang over my trousers/shorts). I've
always done that so its not an issue with me, I gather some people without protruding bellies are
    baffled by this!
