I have 4 Jumbo Cornish x Rock chickens which will be 8 weeks old this
weekend. They would dress out at about 5.5 pounds based on past experience.
My family will all be visiting for July 4 and asked that I wait 2 more weeks
and
provide really fresh chicken for the celebration. I am sure that these
birds will be close to 7 pounds dressed in 2 more weeks.
Normally I like to fry chicken, but I have a grill with a large rotissery.
How should I cook these birds if I butcher them and eat them fresh at 10
weeks and 7 pounds?
Thank you,
Edward Warren

Thank you,
Edward WarrenAs long as they are under 3 months, they should stay tender.
I'd not worry about it and cook them any way you want. :-)
I've butchered "mutt" crossbreed roosters as old as 5 months and still
been able to use them as fryers.YMMV.
Cheers!

Thank you,
Edward WarrenSpatchcock them (butterfly) and just grill them. You might need to use
foil covered bricks to keep them flattened out.--
It's not a question of where he grips it!
It's a simple question of weight ratios!A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

My "Meat King" birds will be 11 weeks old on Tuesday 21 June. They have
been eating continuously and may be a little fatty around the rear end but
they will be FANTASTIC. Most of them should weigh in over 10 lbs dressed
weight. In my opinion, there should be no problem serving your relatives
some fresh chicken. I would feed them a little less and give them lots of
fresh greens to eat if available. I will be dining on fresh roasted chicken
on Tuesday night.Farmer John

Thank you for the response.
That was actually my question: how to cook them. I have a grill and a large
electric spit, so I could easily roast a few of them. I had hoped to fry
some as well, but large birds probably do not lend themselves well to that
treatment.
sincerely yours,
