Sounds like the "backing" for the bottle bosses on the inside of the tube is reducing the diameter, get the torch out and have a look, you also need a hacksaw. (for the seatpost)!

Patient is 2001 Colnago C40, Colnago 28.0 seatpost.
Extremely difficult to get the post fully inserted to the depth I need (about 3/4 of the post).
I cleaned both the post and the seat tube as best I could (dry papertowel), and the seatpost is smooth.

I checked that. The bottle bosses are lower down on the tube and aren't in the way.
Interestingly, there seems to be a thin layer of schmootz built up inside the tube that I'm pushing down with the seatpost. Wonder if that's left over from manufacturing or what.
Taking 2 inches off the bottom of the post did help 🙂

Anyone BTDT?
Lee
either the frame is too big for you [shouldn't have to insert that much tube] or the seat post is /way/ too long for the frame. you only need about 4" of insertion and the frame's probably only onternally honed for 6" at the most. if you're committed to the frame, cut the seat post.

Thanks Jim, makes sense to me.
The frame is the correct size and the seatpost *was* too long for for the frame. I cut a couple of inches off and that helped. I think I'll take a bit more off.
I never had this experience with steel or aluminum frames...this is my first CF frame.
