Nads! I'm travelling north tomorrow and could have done with some decent
reading material for the train. Due to Pete not getting it in the post
yesterday I'll have to take my OU maths with me---I've already exhausted
the new AtoB.

The problem, with Martin Stone at any rate, is whether we will be
heading inland on Saturday morning or across some water. So, I'm not
sure which bit to revise! But yes, I'm heading up to Leuchars to meet my
running partner and then across to Oban.

Two years ago when it was based in the Spital of Glen Shee he put up an
event map the night before in the marquee. Some people spent a lot of
time studying the map. Of course it was the opposite side of the glen to
the event!

(I've been checking the Velovision website for the last couple of weeks
hoping to see that it's been sent out - it's good to see that it should
finally be on its way).

are all sorts of peculiarities of logistics that would make a lot
more sense if that was the case...

Ours is a wee green one, so even easier to find! (A Spacepacker, we've a
large two tone green Snowcat (Galaxy with ridge fin) for a basecamp

Whoops!

Last year I lost my SI dibber after control three on day 1. It was my
own dibber rather than a hired one and I'd stupidly worn it orienteering
style rather than on a wristband. I lost it on a 300m descent through
heather. A vague plan to go back and look for it was quickly abandoned
when we looked back at the hill.

We carried on and visited all our controls forgetting that there were
words on each one, there specifically for when things go wrong. We even
bothered with the wade across a river and back for the last control.
When we got to the day one download Martin Stone was kind enough to give
us the benefit of the doubt based on my stopwatch time. He then gave me
a hired dibber for day two. (I was his Glasgow to Glencarron bus
conductor last year so perhaps he was being extra kind.)

At about 10pm just when I was starting to fall asleep there was a
megaphone announcement from Martin for me. Someone had found my dibber.
A two inch piece of plastic on a whole hillside!

I'll look out for your tent at the event centre. Not sure what we are
in, it'll depend on which tent Chris brings.

Someone found Roos' compass at the Trossachs SOL event. We'd gone back
and combed where it must have been lost for a while with no luck. So
here's to folk with sharp eyes!
