I have begun running again after being unable for about a year now.
I'll be working at a factory after the holidays, and I'm wondering if I
can stick to a running schedule and be succesful with it even if I'm
working at a "physical" job.
i used to have a job that was light physical labor- drive around to
about 20 different places four days a week making quick deliveries. with
this schedule i was able to skate between 10-15 hours a week without any
problems.
then i switched to a three day a week job that involves much less
driving and a lot of heavy lifting. i tried to keep up my old schedule,
i thought it would be ok since i had an extra day off, but many of those
days off i just felt like sitting around, and the main issue for me was
i lost mental focus.
i think if your job is hard enough to give you sore muscles (like my
butt hurts today from pushing a cart weighing several hundred pounds up
a short hill), then it might be good to consider it to be training along
with the running. the problem is the job doesn't really help you to run
further or faster, the plus side is that the cross conditioning is good
for you overall. if i were you i would go for it, but don't beat
yourself up if you find you need to take the training schedule slower
than planned.
i know that doesn't help a ton, sorry 😉
