What you call "death in a bowl" -- foods high in saturated fat and very low
in carbs -- has dropped my triglycerides form 650+ to normal, raised my HDL
and lowered my ldl cholesterol to a total of 187, and normalized my higg
blood sugar, controlling my T2 diabetes with no medication. Not to mention
helping me to lose 54 pounds and gain much energy. This is of couse my
opinion, based on my personal, anecdotal experience. On what experience or
evidence do you base your metaphor?
How's blood pressure and liver fat levels? Any anemia? Halitosis?
How are the kidneys? Perfect? Then you'd be in the 100th percentile.
Good going! What works for you may not work for others. There's no
substitute for a physician checkup including bloodwork.
BP/HDL/LDL/Blood Sugar are easy to easy to monitor, but there are other
indications of health that can be adversely affected using a
boilerplate or insensible approach to LC. BTW, the Dr. will 70% chance
discourage LC. I've learned to ignore that.
The LCBB from Carl's has 900 cals, 73 g fat, 875 mg cholesterol and an
almost astonishing 2050 mg sodium. Even if Atkins was liberal on salt,
I think he is rolling in his grave. Congrats on your success (and
thanks for sharing your photos), but do you really feel that Carl's Jr.
has an altruistic intent with their menu? Their ads are full of
exploitation and innuendo. The LCBB sounds more like consumer
exploitation than a sincere interest in the LC lifestyle. Any
recognized organizations like Atkins recognized the LCBB as a healthy
choice in the LC lifestyle? There may well be, but I'd be surprised.
If you can eat LCBB regularly and stay healthy long term, go for it. I
don't think most people can and I wouldn't encourage more than the
occasional consumption of that, yes, Death in a Bowl.
BTW, before I started Atkins (or my variation on it), I had high high
blood pressure, on meds, "normal" but on the high side on blood sugar
and limited energy. On it and since, my BP and sugar levels were so
low the Dr. said I had "good genes". So you're preaching to the choir.
Later, to try to be more mainstream, I tried different things, but
Atkins is most compatible with me. As per a previous thread, I try to
avoid indulgent/substitute foods like "low carb bread", etc, because,
"in my opinion", they intensify desire for the real deal. Back to the
thread, Quiznos "low carb" deals are really just a tease. But I
understand if they work for some people.
I'd prefer not to shanghai this thread any further, but feel free to
email me if you challenge what I say.
