  1. Can anyone tell me if the Mavic 821 shifter indexes 7 or 8 speeds? Thanks!

    Mavic's '90/'91 Trade Catalogue describes the 821 shifters being
    compatable (sic) with six or seven speed applications when paired with
    their 840 derailleur:

    The number of speeds is not selected at the lever, but rather by
    choosing from the two cable routing options between the barrel
    adjuster and cable fixing bolt on the 840 derailleur.
