Here's a worthy gripe.
Took my new (2003) model XTC 1 (bought 2nd hand but never ridden) to Links
for a service and shocks service. Gave it in on Tues and picked it up Sunday
...
Took it home and realised there was no lube on the chain, bike was still
dirty and the seat had been put up but not put back.
Took back and got attitude from the owner who later made excuses because he
said he was trying to get his workers to attend to the customers .. the guy
I ended up dealing with had worked there for 5 years!!!! No time like the
present for training.
Owner finally got the worksheet out after I requested 3 times and arrogantly
assured me the forks had been serviced but the bike probably hadnt. How he
devined that is beyond me!
So I wait around for an hour while they service the bike. It comes out and I
take it for a test ride round the corner ... gears crunch, dont change etc
etc
Take it back in .. back on the stand, play around a bit more .. another test
ride .. same problem. The mechanic takes it for a ride and comes back with
the feeble excuse that that is the best it can be.
Owner takes it for a ride and says its fine. I ride it again and it crunches
like a grinder at an abbatoir.
I go outside with the owner and said bike and he begins to give me a
diatribe on how you cant change gears under load. "Lets not talk bikes, lets
talk physics" he says. I say "Lets talk how I am tired of being spoken to
like a fool".
He rides off and changes gears in front of me, the chain falls off and he
has the gaul to tell me its fine ... at that moment!!!!!
Asked for a refund which he begrudgingly gave.
Took to the Freedom Machine in Prahran. Darius, as always, a true gentleman,
listened to my story and booked it in.
Went to pick it up and it turns out a part was missing from the shocks which
Links supposedly serviced. TFM replaced the part and tuned the gears
properly. Darius forced me to test ride the bike before I took it and made
sure I was satisfied.
Links will never get another cent of my money ... and I am still considering
whether to get a refund for the "shock service".
Any opinions?
