I am wondering how common injuries to the hand/fingers are, to those
whom are "everyday" cooks? I got my first nasty slice today - nothing
to stitch - just took a fairly deep layer off my left pinky. Never
injured myself to the point of needing sutures while cooking, but did
twice while I was a potter (shattered stoneware).

I have a friend who is a professional chef and he has a systemic Staph
infection from hand injuries which won't clear up. Anyone have home
remedies he might want to try? I think he's about at his wit's end.

So now I have to deal with the soggy bandaid [censored]. The things too deep
for the glue. Despite that I made some awesome scampi tonight - added
mushrooms and peppers and some jalapeno for bite. Thanks to whomever
started the "Shrimp scampi" thread. 🙂

My dad was a carpenter until he retired a few years ago. This required
that he work with a lot of hand tools that can be dangerous if not used
safely. As far as I know, not once has he hurt himself during the fifty
or so years that he worked as a carpenter. My dad's older brother had
only one accident of note. He's a carpenter too and still working. My
uncle once cut all his fingers off on his right hand with a table radial
saw. The fingers were all successfully reattached.

I am not an every day cook, but I have been cooking an average of three
meals a day at home for decades and I rarely cut myself. Maybe once a
year will I slip with a knife, and its never been anything that required
a hospital visit or that didn't heal completely.
