Rider 1 rides 25 miles/day, every day with a focus on upping his
average. Doing the simple math, he gets 175 miles per week.

Rider 2 rides four to five times per week, putting in about the same
distance. Rider 2 gets three ~30 mile rides, and then one or two
    longer ones.

If all variables were held constant (route, effort, vertical, weekly
distance) except for the frequency, who would end up in better
    condition?

_ The question is largely pointless, since the hypothesis is
false. One of the rules of logic is that if the "if statement"
is false then you can put anything you like after then and the
entire statement is still true. Nothing is ever constant.

_ Rider 1 will burn out with injuries or boredom in a few
months. Rider 2 will get a bad case of saddle sores from the
long rides on the weekend and have to stop riding for a month.
Anybody that adopts a static schedule for training generally
doesn't last too long or get good results.

_ Seriously, if you want to ride fast periodization is
important. Keeping a training diary, monitoring your
health and taking a rest day when you need it is even
    more important.
