  1. I finally got my pics online!

    http://www.dennylane.com/nemoparty.html

Everyone loved the cake, including my husband. Many took leftovers
home, thankfully! I did not want that much leftover cake!

Somebody here asked me for my frosting recipe. I originally got it
online from recipe source (below). My friend who used to do cakes alot
for friends says it's better than her recipe. :-)

Although it's very good, I did not make the spice cake for the Nemo
cake. I did he orange chocolate swirl cake that I posted in my "Let them
eat cake" thread. I have notes below as to what I do with this recipe,
but for the white frosting on the cake I used all plain :white" Crisco
(instead of Crisco and Margarine) with some added butter flavor extract
for flavor. It didn't turn out as good as the regular recipe below, but
it turned out perfectly starch white for the "stripes" and was OK tasting.

SPICE CAKE AND BUTTER CREAM FROSTING
    Recipe By :
    Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories : Cakes Frostings
    Desserts

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    -----TASTE OF HOME 4/5/94-----
    2 cups Sugar
1 cup Butter or margarine -- soften
    4 Eggs -- beaten
    3 cups All-purpose flour
    1 tsp Baking powder
    1 tsp Baking soda
    1 tsp Ground cinnamon
    1 tsp Ground cloves
    1 tsp Ground nutmeg
    1 cup Buttermilk
(I also add 1 tsp of Cardamom)

    Butter Cream Frosting:

1/2 cup Shortening (I use Butter Flavor Crisco)
1/2 cup Butter or margarine -- soften
(I use stick Margarine like Blue bonnet or Imperial)
    1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
    4 cups Confectioners' sugar
    3 Tbsp Milk

For the cake, in a mixing bowl, cream sugar and butter. Add eggs; beat
well. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with
buttermilk. Mix well. Pour into a greased and floured 13x9x2" baking
pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until the cake tests done.
    Cool.

For frosting, cream shortening and butter in a mixing bowl (till
    fluffy). Add vanilla. Gradually beat in sugar. Add milk (as needed);
beat until light and fluffy. Frost cake.

The cake looks great, and the little fellow who's birthday it was looks so
    handsome!

  3. I know this is SO off topic, but... what a great view you have in your
home!!!! I love the trees and greenery outside the window.

What a terrific looking cake, and I love the way you used streamers
to make an ocean for the fish! Great job! Happy Bday to your
    young one! 🙂

Thanks. I always get that comment when I send pics! We are on 3/4 of an
acre. It also helps to live in a rural area & have a county park behind
your house. :-) I love our place.

    Thanks!

We still have the decorations up & each time we come downstairs he says
"Birf-day-par-tee" when he sees the decorations again. It's so cute.

    =====================

Our thoughts too! 6 y/o Nathan thought the pictures were great. He stated
that your son was very lucky that you produced such a beautiful party for
him. He was dismayed that your son didn't wear a party hat! LOL What's
funny is that I've never made/bought party hats for any of his parties
either... ! Not sure why that thought even came up.

    <shrug> Too funny!

    Great job Denise!

    Thanks!

We didn't "do" hats this time, as I had planned on a water party. The
weather, although moderately nice, ended up not warm enough for running
    around in sprinklers. :-(.

It was fun for the kids anyhow. We have a hill in our back yard, so
they rolled down the hill like logs & took walks in the park behind our
house. I have a bike trailer/jogger & I pushed the kids around in that.
We had a pinata & a fish dart/ball game. They also got a favor bag
along with the candy from the pinata. They had a blast.

Question - where did you get the Shark Bait/Mt. Wannahakalugi shirt? I
have been looking for cute Nemo shirts and coming up dry lately. Seems
like the movie has been out *just* long enough for the consumables to
disappear. I got a few at Kmart but that's it.

    Thanks!

Walmart. It's actually a tank & came with shorts, but wanted him to wear
it so we put on a long sleeve shirt underneath.
