  1. Does anyone have excessively loud joints? My knee and ankle joints seem to
crack a lot more than they used to.

Could it be cycling? Swimming? Or just the inevitable process of aging.

Remove your knees and ankles, give 'em a good coat of grease (Park
Tool is good), then reinstall them to the appropriate torque spec.

I'd drink first. Probably Jack Daniels.

(my ankles crack when I walk, but they're quiet when I ride. Of
    course, I wear an MP3 player when I ride, so . . . . )

    ;-)

Oh, ya - not when I ride but when I get up from the desk and walk to the
    next room: 'crack-crack-crack'.

i've found that surgically implanted grease fittings work well. a shot
of lithium grease once a month and the noise level stays under control.

oh yeah, the jack daniels too.

My knee makes crunching sounds, when I go down stairs. But it doesn't
    bother me, in any way.

I am a little concerned, I'm sure it is not a good sign. When I saw my
doctor, the last time, it was during the off season, so I hadn't
noticed it, and forgot to ask.

    No cracking, just crunch;-)

Mine too, right knee, but mine is my own fault. Crashed a car at about
85 and was thrown out and broke my right femur (shattered actually) into
the socket. They had to toss about 1.5" of shredded bone to have
anything to work with so now I have a shorter right leg that tends to
pop once in a while. No pain, just noise, and I have had that since
1970. That was one where my heart stopped a few times and I got paddled
back to the living, only to spend six months in the hospital. I told you
that I am amazed to still be alive and that is only one reason, but of
course you will claim it is B.S. as you always do. This one is on record.
Speaking of joints, I can usually pull on my fingers and get them to pop
as if they were coming out of the joint, kind of like some people
cracking thier fingers with their hands together. I don't know if this
causes any harm but if feels better afterward.

How your ankle joints could pop is way beyond me and may be cause to see
a doctor. Regarding aging related stuff, one of the things I do is to
eat Tums antacid pills like candy, since they are Calcium Carbonate. I
think my bone density is way up there from that.

How old are you anyway? I am 56 and not noticing anything from getting
older except that I am starting to look like my dad. My eyes don't focus
as good (if at all) anymore but that happens to everyone from about 40
on up. That sneaks up on you and about all you can do is exercise your
eyes by focusing close/far/close/far...repeat as needed.

You might try WD-40, which some people use on joints.
    Read this first, though:
