I heard on the news last night that Congress has passed a law that forbids any family member/spouse from pulling a feeding tube unless the subject person had indicated otherwise in a living will...
I know we have all gone round and round on this issue in the previous thread but I just have a huge problem with this...what if the person in question procrastinated and did not create a living will but the two spouses talked about it at some previous point in their lives and something did happen to one of them...this law now forces that person to live out their lives, at a potential major fiancial cost to everyone...

Sounds like stupid law to me. I bet it won't count for [censored] when the lawmakers are put into that position.

Are the laws on euthanasia in USA federal or are there different rules in different States? Australia has been through ongoing battles on this, with ensuing debate between a Territory (NT) and the Federal Government. Without engaging in the euthanasia debate itself, the pulling of the feeding tube method seems to me to be a somewhat barbarically slow means of achieving an end without legal responsibility. Perhaps this is only an interpretation from not having been directly involved in such an event. Anyway, regardless of the positions that people take on euthanasia, I have great sympathy for those who find themselves in a situation where they have to make a stand, one way or the other.

I think it is a wakeup call for all of us there craw daddy... I see your point, but at the same time, this make keep spouses from "prematurely" pulling the plug on ones spouse so they can get rich on insurance or get away with ....murder? The answer?..Everyone get a "living will" and this won't be an issue..

Agreed, everyone should be req'd to get a "living-will' once they reach the age of driving a car. 16 yrs. old. Heard the autopsy results tonight: "LARGO, Fla. - An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband’s contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner’s office said Wednesday. Peabody, Peabody, Peabody...1st, Why couldn't this "autopsy" be witnessed? I find it suspect that no one was allowed to assist in this "autopsy"...Second, I think most people object to the method in which she was murdered...Too bad there isn't a human version of PETA....
