Anyone use a Brooks saddle on their tri bike? I ride with some roadies that swear by them, but they are generally riding long distances or tours. I can't see putting something like the B17 on a tri set up, but perhaps some of the the less wide models they've got? I've got a road bike and enjoy doing long group rides as well as shorter triathlons, so was just wondering if anyone else had a set up like this?

I'm using a Brooks saddle on a road bike I use for long rides and triathlons. I should say, though, that I don't have aerobars yet--don't know how that would affect the comfort. By the way, what is a rough figure for the improvement to be expected from aerobars?
I tried several modern women's saddles which I couldn't stand either because they were too narrow for my sit bones or because under the padding they were like rocks. A Brooks is hard on the surface but gives a little when you hit a bump. I love it--I can ride 7 or 8 hours without being saddle sore.
The issue I worried about is that you are supposed to protect Brooks saddles from getting wet. I thought about putting a plastic bag over it, but finally just gave it a fresh coat of their special leather dressing the day before my triathlon. It was fine--the leather didn't look like it got soaked at all. But if you want to bike in your wet swim clothes frequently in practice that might cause the saddle problems.

Which do you recommend for triathlon (ironman)? I am also thinking of putting one on my racing bike. As finishing is the only important thing to me i dont care about some extra weight. But it shouldnt be too heavy either.

Thanks,

I'm no expert, but I think you want the narrowest one that fully supports your particular sit bones. For good information on the choices see http://www.wallbike.com/brooks/standardsaddles.html I just bought a saddle for them for a bike at a family summer house and was impressed by how quickly it arrived. And they have a good guarantee.
Ok, thanks. I've just seen Brooks name some of their saddles race/mtb saddles, so my question wasn't too smart ;-) I won't want a large saddle for city use *g*
Btw: In a German forum I've read about a bunch of ppl who used to swear by brooks saddles, but some of them like a Flite or some other expensive plastic saddle more (for 150km+).
