  1. Sorry to be a bother but is there a standard for gary fischer bikes as to the threads per inch and diameter of a bolt that recieves a 5mm allen wrench?
I have bar ends on a mountain bike and I striped the head. I want to go to home depot to buy a replacement but I am not sure if I can find the right one.
The reason I ask is that I dont see a nut for the bolt it seems the bar end is tapped to recieve this bolt.

any idea or links are appreciated.
thank you for your time and have a good day

  2. Well, I'm not a Bike mechanic and know nothing about Gary's Bikes, but the Bolt you're talking about is probably metric..

A 5mm Allen wrench will fit an M6 Cap head screw (bolt), in which case, the pitch isn't measure in TPI (threads per inch) rather it will be .75 for a fine thread or 1.00mm for a coarse...

    So you'll need either:

    An M6 X.75 (fine) screw

    or

    An M6 x 1.00 (coarse) screw....

If you can take the old screw to the store that would be great, you can then match the pitch and length easily...

    Hope this helps.....

HFC!! Take the bolt out of the other one and go match it up at a good hardware store. Hint...it's metric.

    what does HFC mean?

I asked the question because I was at work and happend wanted to stop at the hardware store on the way home.
    I hope I didn't offend anyone.
