Can anyone recommend me new tires on the Trek 1000 that is more comfortable then the stock botrangers yet will still be responsive or even more responsive then the current botranger tires. I think the size on them now are 700 x 25. If I switch to 700 x 23 tires, do I need new rims??

If you want more comfort than 700x25, then you should look into going up to 700x28 instead of downward.
Also you should probably state the type of riding you do as some tires are geared up for touring and some for racing.

Check out Michelin Carbons. A tad heavier than a race tire (Pro Race), but much better durability. Some good deals on Hutchinson also. 25 or 23, same rim.
