Yesterdays ride

Those guys are amazing...I did a ride one year that had a large
handcycle contingent...imagine doing 50+ miles on a handcycle!

You ever try to *ride* one of those things?

I borrowed one while staying with an old friend in Aspen. Barely got
it out of her driveway before thinking I was having a heart attack.

Yesterday, we pedaled out to mile 20 of the Rock & Roll Marathon at
about 1hr 35 min, to watch the African leaders whiz across. Ahead of
them were the wheelchair athletes, booking up the hill at about 20mph.
Maybe an hour later, the first handcycle athletes came by us.

Does give you a lot to think about....

I remember the first time I saw a "fast wheelchair"... they lined him
up ahead of us runners in a duathlon - I was hoping we wouldn't run
over him. That worry lasted about ten seconds when the gun went
off... The really cool thing is that although the guy had only half
of one leg, he was doing pretty well on the bike leg - I passed him
and would estimate he was going nearly 20mph (32km/h).

It's worse seeing those guys when you've decided to bail
on riding for the day.

A few weeks ago, I was standing on it in a low gear climbing a reasonably
steep hill, and realized I was gaining fast on a lady. "Guess I"ll blow by
her pretty fast", I thought to myself. Then I noticed she only had one leg.

Impressive in my book.
