  1. I have not cycled for many a year but getting back into it. I bought a very cheap second hand steel framed road bike with 27 x 1 1/4 wheels and put new tyres and tubes on it myself. All well for a bit, but today I noticed a Bump Bump Bump in the rear, one per revolution. On getting home I inspected and can clearly see, on rotatining the rear wheel, a flat section in the tyre of about 2 inches length. The tyre is fully inflated. I can see no distorion in the rim as it rotates, only in the outer edge of the tyre.

Can someone explain what is happening and what the remedy is?

  2. Possibly the tire bead isn't set. I'd deflate, put some soapy water all around and inflate to max pressure, then let air out to desired pressure.

  3. Thanks for the promt response. Will try that. The tyres (if you will excuse my quaint British spelling) are specified 4bar min, 6 bar max. I have them at near max. Should I be less ambitious. I am a big lad - 205lb (14 stone plus) 6 ft 3 in and it's a 23 inch frame.
