Aerobars?

    Ever since I bought my KHS300 flite 2003.

    The right side of handelbars have chreeked under when understrain.

    Ive examined them closely and there are no visable cracks.

    Anyway as you can get bars cheep anyway. I thought id just get some replacements.

    Ive never found riding in the drops very enjoyable or confomy.

    So im wondering why dont I just fit some Profile Airwing Bars on it instead.

    Thus gaining from better aerodynamics, a more comfortable ride and they will look cool (most important!:cool🙂

    will my Shimano Sora Gear/Brake Levers be easy enough to fit on a pair of aero bars?

    Can anyone think of any other reasons why this might be a bad idea?

    I have a friend who did the same thing. He said its a little more difficult to shift using the sti levers. I believe the Sora will be even harder due to the thumb shifter button, but I'm not very familiar with the ergonomics of that group--it may be easier than I think. You aren't going to gain that much in terms of aerodynamics switching to those bars really, as your shoulders are still just as wide using either bar.

    The other thing you can consider is flipping your current stem over, to lower the bars a little bit--this won't cost you anything at all. This will have the effect of lowering your position while you are on the hoods, but not by a whole lot (still less than if you were to switch to the other bars).

    What kind/brand stem are you running? Is the face plate 2 or 4 screws? I had a stem that only used 2 screws and quickly replaced it when it came loose and I almost landed on my face. The Stella Azzurra Vice-Versa I have now has been great. No creaking, no flex and with 4 screws, it hasn't come loose.

    its a 2 screw plate.
    but its not the stem thats creeking. its the actual bars themselfs. I know cos they still creek when removed from the bike.

    Lower my postion? surely that would make using the hoods even more uncomfortable.
