This morning when I was leaving for work, I saw a blue package on my
front step. The tyres had arrived all the way from England, the
packaging was flimsy to say the least literally a plastic bag with no
padding, just as well the tyres aren't fragile. Anyway I'm now
quite rapt 4 tyres at $28 bucks each ($43 if you include the other non
delivery).

So I was pretty happy riding into work............................until
I got a flat.....time to replace those tyres...

Buying online can be a bit scary - especially the first few times.

I've only had good experiences with Probikekit, Parkers International
and XXcycle - all orders complete and arrived in good condition. And
you can't complain at the price. I even got a new helmet from probikekit.

I agree with your comment re the packaging from Probikekit - it's pretty
flimsy. But, they also have the cheapest shipping and for non-delicate
items, it seems to work fine. Most delicate things are in their own
robust packaging before they're chucked in the blue bag. My last order
actually came as two bags - still only $18.99 shipping though.

although their advertised online price is not the cheapest around , they
will price match anything you find, so a little research goes a long long
way

I think this is a tough one. On one hand, I want to support the LBS (who compared to others are pretty well-priced anyway) but I recently decided on the saddle of my dreams and started looking at prices. The LBS was still the cheapest of the stores, but still an extra $80 above probikekit. This made it nearly *double* what I could get it online. 🙁

The local prices varied from $165 to $280 (seriously!!!) And probikekit got it to me within a week.

Hi all.Just wondering how long on average for any parcel from Probikekit to arrive on our shore?I ordered some stuffs from them on a Saturday 2 weeks back, but until today,still yet to recieve the parcel.I am beginning to worry something might have happened to the parcel.Could the postie left it on my front door and some passer by might help themself with the parcel 🙁

What was the longest time someone had to wait for their parcel?Also according to the Probike's website,they send them through the Postal service.Is that the case?

Hey gb - I think LotteBum is also getting worried about a long wait
from probikekit?? Maybe there is a 'kink' in their system somewhere
that is holding things up.....

As i understand, most peope have had pretty positive experiences with
them, so don't panic just yet...

HI guys.I have finally recieved the parcels today,I am over the moon with the prices for those items 🙂

So it all took exactly 2 weeks to arrive,I can live with this.I think the delays are more to do with the customs having to inspect the parcels as there are stickers on the parcels declaring it been opened by customs.

Again thanks for guys for the tips on this online store.

thats pretty reasonable.

ive waited up to 5 weeks on occassions (over christmas) though recently i usually only have to wait a week or so. A benefit of living in the most isolated city in the world is that we are still closer to the UK than the east coast 🙂

another endorsement for probikekit

i was shopping around for some midrange pedals, and saw they had the look keo's for about $160au, close to half of the aus RRP.

i bought some cheap tyres to offset the shipping and it took just over a week to get here.

(ps the tyres were half the price they are here)

saying that in what looked like Dutch. It took me a minute to realise that
the sender had written "South Australia", and someone had read no further
than "South A..." before putting it on the boat to South Africa!

Moral: no-one overseas has ever heard of South Australia. Never, ever write
it on a label, or refer to it as SA.

I am amazed that the parcel traveled halfway around the world and still get to its intended destination though.I always worry when ordering through mail delivery that the parcel may end up in someone's hand intead of mine.

I actually asked the guy who delivered my parcel that what if I wasn't home and would the parcel end up being left in my doorsteps instead.His answer is no one is supposed to leave the parcel behind unattended,but chances are it could happen.

What is the experience most of you have when it comes to how the parcel is delivered?

Australia Post Courier always takes the parcel back to the local Post Office if no-one home (most common) and I collect it from there.

To make certain, I always put note to that effect in the instructions/comments area of the internet order form.

A good idea also is to have the parcel sent 'Registered Post' so that it has
to be signed for before they hand it over. Even if you're not home at the
time of delivery, most postal or courier firms leave a card with contact or
pick-up directions such as a post office closeby or something like that.My
Postoffice always asks for positive ID like a picture drivers licence so as
to confirm who is picking up.I've never had a problem to date.

I live close to the airport, where the freight companies have their depots,
so they always knock on my door around 8:30am. I swear, roll over,
go back to sleep, and pick it up from their depot the next day.

I'm not a morning person, except where group rides hold out the
promise of quiet roads and coffee :-)
