Security in the Projects...

I work with kids, several of whom are low income/poverty level. One of my clients lives in the projects and has a Pacific bike, yeah, yeah it's a pos to everyone here, but where he lives, it's not a bad bike. Now it's already gotten rippped off once, when he found it all the cables were cut, the stickers were removed and the top tube was dented. Now I can fix the mechanical problems, the dent's gonna stay, it's not too bad but I need some way to ID the bike as his so if/when it gets ripped again he can get it back. Paint and stickers are out because they can be removed. Dremeling might work but I wanted to see if anyone here ever customized a bike with graphics/lettering. I just fear the dremeling will look a little special, as in special ed. This kid is already a bit of a target (not too hard to be one of those in the projects, especially if you're not quite right) and I don't want to make his bike look like [censored] and give kids one more reason to target him. I would Consider telling the kid, to invest in a nice Chain and Lock. some Yale material or Master.
Is the Paint Removed as well as the stickers ? or just the stickers.
new paint is hard cause it needs to be Laquered for strength. . . Go to a LBS buy a sticker kit for
a Diamond back or something.
Dremel ? engraving ? envrage the bottom for sure. not the sides. what are you ?
kid needs Pepper spray and martial arts lessons.
New paint. get some Polycarbonate. or 'belton' or 'multona' get the enamels its good german paint
used by Graff artists.

How obvious does the ID have to be? Could you dremel/engrave a name on the underside of a tube? On a
seat post? Super easy to check, but not blatantly obvious unless you're looking for it.

I don't know, it's not labeled any more. I just assumed it was hi-ten steel but I'm not sure.

How about making a headbadge out of some random metal thing and getting someone to pop-rivet it on?
You could engrave the kid's name on the headbadge and make it look nice. Casual thieves aren't gonna
bother drilling out the rivets, I suspect.

engrave under the BB, then a light coat of paint over. No one will see it..

Sadly, bigger locks won't work. If they want it, they'll take it. As far as dismantling whatever it
is locked to. Or cutting the frame, to sell the parts.

even neon pink won't work. I've seen 6' tall teenagers riding little girls bikes (24" rims), with
pink bits on it.
