WellI it was about £60 cheaper than C T C .but can i take it to the local
agent to fix under the guarantee ? cas

Probably the chain tensioner needs some fettling.

Which model is it? 3, 5 or 6 speed?

My guess is that the tensioner is not doing its funky thing. Does it
move smoothly, keeping the chain tension as you swing the back wheel
under?

Yes, but don't expect them to like it. Say you bought it from
"another shop"...

I bought mine (I did mention I have a Brompton didn't I everybody? I
have a feeling I might have forgotten) from Reading's Brompton shop
for that reason. It cost me about £45 less than I could have paid,
but by the time shipping and the 100 mile tune-up are taken into
account, plus backup service, I think I'll be even.

park/fold the bike later on , only when i unload from the car,I will check
the tensioner thanks for the tip ...cas

OK, I think the issue may be that when it's in the car the sliding
idler is being pushed over to one side or some such, so that the chain
is sticking in the tensioner. What orientation do you put the bike in
the car? Over on one side? Drive or non-drive side?

I keep it upright in the back,that point
about the tensioner sliding over could be the problem .I will push it over
next time i go out,but not today its raining,I dont want to get it wet!

I've had the same thing happen with my Brompton T6. At first I
associated it with turning the pedals (to get them aligned for
completely folding the bike) while the back wheel was folded in. Then it
happened once when I had definitely done no such thing.

However, it almost happened this morning and I saw what was going on.
The small hook on the left front fork had caught on the chain and
dragged it off the chainwheel as I unfolded the back wheel and
simultaneously swung the front half of the bike around the the front. I
untangled the hook from the chain before continuing and all was well.

In future I shall perform those two unfolding actions sequentially.

If its on its side in the car then that can happen. It never happens in
normal use though.

I shall watch out for that hook. When I fold up
the bike I put a small bungee through the frame to hold the forks ,and stop
it pulling away when I lift it in the car,and I have just noticed that the
mudguard support presses against the chain ring guard and pushes it over the
chain ring slightly.and when I unfold it the chain may not line up.I will
give it a try tomorrow,even if it is raining! good night ...cas

My experience is different. I have never put the bike on its side, and
yet (as described in my earlier post) occasionally I get the same
problem as Cas described.
