factors. Was the dead one the driver? Use of seat belt/shoulder belt? Proper
use thereof? Presence of air bags? Plus the difficulty of evaluating the
intelligence of a dead person. And apparently a recent study seems to find a
physiological difference in the brains of teenagers that causes them to make
BAD decisions under pressure.

In a related study, conducted by me over 14 years of professional
driving...8 years as an exterminator, 6 years as a paramedic...plus an
additional 20 years of "ametuer" driving...I have concluded that 99% of the
stupid things done by drivers (stupid, not reckless...reckless are young men
overwhelmingly) are done by three groups: old people, women, and Orientals
(Asians for the PC among you).

(From a man's point of view): Driving to the office this morning on the
interstate, I looked over my shoulder and there was a woman in a new
Mustang doing 65 mph. Her face was up next to her rearview mirror and
she was putting on her eyeliner. I looked away for a couple seconds and
when I looked back, she was halfway over in my lane, still working on
that makeup!
It scared me so bad, I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the
doughnut out of my other hand! In all the confusion of trying to
straighten out the car using my knees against the steering wheel, my
cell phone was knocked away from my ear and fell into the coffee
between my legs. She ruined the phone and disconnected an important
call! Dang women drivers! ;-)

No, stupidity = stupidity. I'm not talking about driving errors. I mean
STUPID. Forty mph in the left lane of an Interstate, slowly pulling out of a
parking lot directly in front of rapidly moving traffic, slamming on brakes
5 feet into an intersection when the light turns yellow, backing up on a
freeway because they missed an exit, deciding their half the road should be
in the middle, stopping at the end of the on ramp to a highway and waiting
until there is no car for at least 1/2 mile before entering,...

But I thought the statistics above were dealing with "car accident
fatalities". The reckless driver may cause more accidents, but there may be
no fatality, or other fatalities, so that the rate of fatality may not have
any positive correlation with the recklessness of one of the drivers.

As to the unrelated contention that increased recklessness is inversely
proportional to IQ, that may be true, but I have no way to tell from
personal experience. It just isn't a parameter I've ever paid much attention
to.

I can assure you, though, that stupidity is genetic. When I get a patient
who decided, for example, that standing on the roof of a moving car was a
good idea, I just know the dumber-than-bricks parents will be coming in any
minute.

BTW, I believe the insurance companies have MA drivers as the worst (or
one the worst, I forget) drivers in the nation. Must be listed some
place I am sure. I can confirm MA drivers really suck.

Not true. At least the part about aggressive and impatient.
Insurance companies have known since the 50s that women drivers are
every bit as aggressive as men and actually CAUSE more accidents than
men. It seems being behind the wheel makes women feel physically
equal to men.
