Hi, I'm hoping I could get some advice and opinions from you. My dad is 70 in about 4 weeks time and I would like to get him a bike with a budget of under £500 (around US$900 - although UK is often more expensive than in the US 🙁 ). Despite his age he is still very active - goes running every morning, cycles everywhere etc.
I would like a bike mainly for commuting around and general road riding however something also suitable for some easy off road. His current bike is 10 years old now and I just weighed it to discover it weighs 42lbs! So on that note I want something as light and comfortable as possible. I don't think suspension is necessary as for the sort of money I'm spending prob wouldn't be all that good and just add un-needed weight.
I was hoping to make the bike a suprise which would mean not letting him try them out first - is this possible? I doubt he is on the right size bike at the moment - its some 'apollo' type bike from halfords so it doesn't have to fit like a glove. He is around 6ft (although seems to have gotten to the stage of shrinking!) apparently he has a inside leg measurement of 33" (according to my Mum).
