Hi all -- my hard drive is threatening to croak on me; couldn't get it to boot for two hours this morning. So I'm feverishly backing everything up (yes, I know I should do that more than once every six months or so) and will probably be offline for a while. Hope 'Gator gets to feeling better and that everyone else is well, the heat is murder here right now...
Hey, Jani - I sort of settled on a pretty cheap and effective backup method. It requires the purchase of a second HD, but they're pretty cheap these days. For convenience, you need to get a second drive that's roughly twice the size of your main one. My main HD is only 60 GB, so I added a 120GB drive. And then bought a piece of software called DriveImage. I think I'm only using about 25 or 30 gig, and I can take an image of the drive in about 35 or 40 minutes. I keep about 4 or 5 rolling images, just in case. And if you lose a file, you can restore a single file. If you lose the HD, you can get a new one, restore the image and be up and running in a flash. I believe I paid $99.99 for the software, but it's worth every penny. I guess that's not going to help you right now, but it's something to think about in the future. Why is the heat murder, BTW - are you in the Southwest US? I got up this morning after leaving a window open and nearly froze my butt off. Although, it's supposed to be in the 80's tommorrow - with thunderstorms, naturally.

Sounds like you live in the mountains... you can be sweltering one day and it's snowing the next.

This has been the first weekend in the past 7 weekends that it's actually been sunny. The pattern for those 7 weeks was cool temps, followed by weekends that did nothing but rain. This past week was the opposite - cool temps and rain during the week, with 70's and higher and sunny for the weekend.
