  1. As reported by CyclingNews today:

    Scare for Gerolsteiner
During the second Giro rest day on Tuesday, Team Gerolsteiner had a
small scare while out on its training ride. An Italian tourist joined
the team during the ride, but was hit by a small pickup truck, bringing
both he and Sven Krauss down. Fortunately, neither of the riders was
seriously hurt, and Krauss was able to finish the 16th stage today.
"The guys were clearly scared," said team DS Christian Henn. "But it
    ended OK."

  2. That's right. It was the tourists fault that the pick-up truck hit
    him...

Yep. The pros hate those guys who buy their sponsors' gear and wear their
team clothing and essentially help pay their salaries and make it possible
for them to pursue racing as a career. They just hate that.

To borrow from another regular poster ... dumbass!

    Bob,

You are wrong. I know when they dragged you from the Lucas' ranch in
your Jedi costume that you thought George was making a mistake and that
you were someone he would like since you have so much in commom with
the whole star wars thing, but you were wrong.

WTF? I"ve never wasted a cent on anything Star Wars in my life and I don't
wear pro team kit and I don't worship the ground Lance walks on ... bit I do
know quite a few pro riders and they appreciate the freds who make it
possible for them to do what they do. REAL pros are gracious and
professional for the most part. It's the wannabes (like you, apparently)
who have to act superior to anyone they can in places like rbr 'cuz they
regularly get their asses handed to them on race day at the local level and
wouldn't be worthy to butter a real pro's chamois.

    DumbAss74,

I think a thread discussing "Why Freds Hate Freds" would be at least as
    interesting.

Hatem? They should love him. He sacrificed himself and threw his bike in
front the car so that less pros would get hurt. They should be thanking him.

  8. When I was racing, back in the day, there was a East coast/mid atlantic Cat
2 named Joe Pro. He may have been from either Jersey or Pennsylvannia. I
heard that he had shortened his last name to Pro. He was not a standout
rider, kinda the AMF style IIRC.

Does anyone else remember him ? At first I thought that it was a joke, but
he was a real person and that was his real name.

  9. but he was a cat 2? and he called himself joe pro?

the few real pros I've known or met - as in professional, and I mean
that in the actual sense of the word (they get paid enough
to live on and pay a mortgage, fly around on aeroplanes
to races, and get results in NRC races)
act very "professional" and nice to recreational riders and freds
    alike,
because they are paid to be professionals, and that involves
projecting a good wholesome nice guy image out on the bike
path and anywhere else - but also mostly just because they are nice
people who don't judge a person by how well they pedal a bicycle.
Bart Bowen is an example, the guy would ride with
    anyone, and do group rides,
and he even let Andy Crater live at his house for a month
when he didn't even know him,
not that Andy was a fred, but the guy was very nice
and had nothing to prove and was nice to
other cyclists, regardless of ability or status.
Lieswyn is another example. Gord Fraser too,
they don't have to act pro and better than anyone.

Now the other pros, the D3 "I got on a team because
I'm willing to pay my own way and put team expenses
on my credit card and I got 43rd at a stage of Cascade three
years ago" - these guys usually have more
atitude for sure, and they usually won't associate with freds.
Not to go all Psych 101 on you, but these guys
need to feel better than other people (freds, non-pros, etc)
because they don't get results or money or recognition
    to validate themselves,
just being a "pro" is all they have, and they need
to feel better than the unwashed masses of freds,
who are uncool and not fast.

There are exceptions, some people are just a-holes,
and it doesns't matter what their profession is,
but I don't think most pros "hate freds"
Bostick used to ride around with Freds, these
older guys that worshipped him and followed him
    around religously.

I have some fredlike qualities, I still get
chainring marks on my calf, but yes,
I can imagine the mirror wearing, half-wheeling,
style freds could get a little annoying if you're
just out trying to do your job.
