Removing Bottom Brackets

Try spraying some penetrating oil on it like Master Mechanic or WD-40 and let it soak in for like 15 minutes and then try again.

That doesn't work for loosening english thread on the drive side. It ought to be marked 1.37 x24 or 68 or 73 x 1.37 if english.

yeah tried that and still no dice bit worried about doing damage to the frame or something by forcing it too much, suppose i have to get it off to get the actual bottom bracket out ?

Cool, I didn't know that english threaded BB were left hand threads on the drive side. I thought the only diference was size 36mm versus 1.37"

Ok here is another question, Why do Italian threads measure diameter in MM and yet count the threads in TPI (Threads Per Inch)?

Ok guys thanks very very much saved me a few curses along the way. Got the bottom bracket out and it's a sealed cartridge type which i assume means i can't take it apart to regrease it ? Times have changed since i last took out a bottom bracket......over 10 yrs ago mind. Next question is the bb has done about 3k, should it be starting to go after that amount of kms ?

Sounds kinda early to me, way early in fact. Noise from the BB area can often be misleading. If it's going, going, gone you should be able to feel it when you spin the axle with it when it's off the bike, more of a grinding feel than a sound. If it's a ticking sound you may want to investigate the crank arm and/or pedal.

If the BB was not properly installed or became dirty or loose it will make noise. So clean everything apply thread lock of required (I would suggest it) install to proper torque if there is one (there is). Do the same for crank arms, chair ring bolts, pedals. Got it altogether well good than check to see if it creaks. I like to put the front wheel againsit the wall and stand up on the pedals and see if I can make any noise (except shouting if I fall) if no sound than usually I have gotten rid of the problem. Ya don't need thread lock on a properly tightened BB,especially so one with english threads.

I expected you to reply so predictable. Actually the BB I own came with thread lock on it when I purchased it. I didn't say to do it I said if required do it. Not assuming I know everything for every part. If it came loose before it might be prudent to put some on. It won't hurt if its removable which is the only kind I would use. Like I said I don't assume to know everything so I try not to make permanent decisions. Any way I have to go out and get my torque wrench calibrated its a nice day I think I'll ride there.

Yeah well i cleaned it up and greased all the bits and put it back on, went out for a spin today and it was grand no noise at all so hopefully will get another few miles outta it.
