  1. Hi,

I have an injured knee and am not able to run (or bike, or even do the
ellipse machine). So I am considering pool running in order to not go crazy.
From what I see online, it would make sense to get an aqua belt and a
tether. It seems pretty straightforward. The more difficult thing seems to
be finding a pool that will allow it. I'm a member of Bally's and they would
allow it but their pool is only 4 feet deep.

The main question I have is if anyone has used, or knows of a pool near
Shoreview, Minnesota, that allows pool running? I'd be willing to drive up
to 20 miles or so. Are there any Twin Cities Minnesota runners out there who
currently pool run or have in the past? I'd also be interested in any
pointers anyone might have about pool running.

    Thanks,

    Bob P.

Bob - I was pool running last year when I had a foot injury.

Although most pool runners use aqua belts, I didn't have one and was
    prepared
to try without one. So I "pool ran" and used my hands and arms also to keep
    me
afloat. This was pretty tough to start with, but after a couple of sessions
    I got up
to 50-60 mins uninterrupted without a problem. I found it quite boring so I
    used
to count the number of "steps"/minute. IIRC 60 was easy, 80 was a "tempo"
    pace,
and 100 was "moving fast". I used a pool where they had a few lanes for
    laps, and
around half the width of the pool for other people. I stayed away from the
    lanes as I
was moving very slowly and I did 1/2 laps, always staying in water where I
    was out
of my depth - i.e my feet weren't touching the bottom.

    Good luck.

    Anthony.

  3. "Pool running"? Wuzzup wit dat? Do you go swimming on your treadmill?
