What race have you been watching? The only time he attacks is in the last
bit before a GPM.

Now that he made the mistake of moving up to 5th on GC the peloton won't
let him go with early breakaways anymore.

I disagree with you here, too. I don't think the peloton has had a
choice, one way or the other. They haven't had any control over the
mountain breakaways. If Simoni could have summoned Lance Armstrong's
train to drag his ass back up to Rujano', who was sitting in the top 10
on GC, he surely would have. But he doesn't have that team. The only
complete team of that calibre in this Giro is otherwise occupied
ferrying Petacchi around.

Of course they had a choice. They chose to let him go because they figured
it wasn't worth the effort to chase him down. When he's in 5th on GC, only
+7 seconds to Garate, the calculation changes.
